Tuesday Newsday: Breaking Wallinspired Blog News

I have a wallinspired blog announcement…drum roll… are you all sitting down? 🙂

If you read my post last week you know that I operate another blog in addition to this one as well as an Etsy shop and a bunch of other responsibilities. To tell the truth I’m tired. Dog tired.

This is how I feel

Multimedia Painting – Tired Girl from Amy22Mae

So I decided to make a few changes so I can do my best work and hold onto my sanity.

I will be offering chances for you to write here on the wallinspired blog as guest bloggers. All you have to do is tell me what you’re interested in talking about. The topics you can choose from are:

Parenthood

Fashion

Entrepreneurship

Education

Children

Interior Design

Art

I am looking to post on the blog 3 times a week instead of the schedule of 7 days a week I was shooting for before.

Anyone else feeling tired out there? Let’s commiserate 🙂

Please leave a comment, too, if you’re interested in being a guest blogger!

Moms Monday: I know you are but what am I?

First, I want to thank everyone for reading, commenting on, following, and supporting this blog! It really means a lot to me and it has boosted my confidence in my writing and ability to network with others. I have learned so much just by interacting with you all here.

Have you read the about page here on the blog? If you’ve ever wondered who is the person writing this stuff? you can find some answers there, but I’ll also provide some answers here.

Me – Elise

You may have discovered this already, but I’m not a mom. Is that shocking? I hope not. I guess I should be flattered if you are shocked. You see I’m just shy of 20 and began writing this blog not because I think I’m some sort of parenting expert, but due to my collaboration with wallinspired.

Wallinspired has a great business going on Etsy and if you run a small, but growing business yourself, you can understand that managing every aspect of your business can be difficult, very difficult. So that’s where I come in. I also run an Etsy shop, Pieces of Elise’s (because my name is Elise – hi there!), and even though my shop is by no means flourishing just yet, I have learned a lot about marketing, social networking, and E-Commerce through the research I’ve done over the past 2 years.

I also write on Squidoo, Yahoo! Voices, and just started my own blog. Craig with wallinspired approached me to promote their shop through this blog, social networks, and elsewhere. If you’ve visited wallinspired‘s shop on Etsy, you probably noticed that their vinyl wall decals are for kids, tweens, and teens. So I’ve really focused my efforts on this blog to reach you, the parents of the kids, tweens, and teens, as well as anyone else who is interested.

I’d like to think that writing for this blog has been going pretty well and that you all are enjoying your time spent here. Would you like to give some feedback?

Click here to take survey and you will be added to a drawing where 1 winner will be chosen. The winner has the choice of getting a free advertising spot on the blog (a 150 x 150 image linking to their blog or website on the right over there –>),  a chance to write a guest blog post here on the wallinspired blog about a topic of their choice, or a free handmade item from my own Etsy shop Pieces of Elise’s. So please take the survey for a chance to win!!!

Sunday Fun day: Open the Photo Albums

Photo credit: Safe and Secure Vintage Photo from RomanceWriter

When was the last time you got out the old family pictures and talked about them with your parents, kids, or other loved ones?

I read two separate articles online that made me think about poring over the photos in my family photo albums. The first one I spotted on the Etsy blog. It was A Legacy of Style by Gabriella Cetrulo. She talked about the style of her mother in the 1970s, her grandmothers in the 50s and 60s, and her great grandmother in the 40s and 50s. She posted some great old pictures of each woman and it got me thinking about taking a look at my mom and aunts with their afros in the 70s. We also have photos from the early 1900s of family members whose names we don’t even know.

The second article I came across was Grandma’s Will from Yahoo! Voices contributor Amanda Barber. It is a good read about her spunky grandmother who inspired her to write. Reading her grandmother’s story made me think of my own grandmother, who would be 2 years older than hers. I know very little about her childhood and background. I would love to do some digging for more information about my grandparents and great-grandparents.

What about you? Do you know a lot about your family? How often do you look at you photo albums?

Tuesday Newsday: Could Your Child Save a Life?

Last year I took a CPR/ First Aid/ AED course and became a “professional rescuer”. Even though I got the training I sometimes wonder if an emergency situation occurred, would I know what to do?

I watched this heart-warming video of a six year old who saved her best friend based on what she learned from a Disney Channel show. To watch click the link below:

Hero Kid Saves Life with the Heimlich

I surely didn’t know how to do the Heimlich when I was a 6 year old. It is definitely apparent, though, that if Beanie had not stepped in, her friend Aniya could’ve lost her life.

So what safety training do your kids have under their belt? Have you shown them any educational videos on what to do if a friend is in Aniya’s situation? Who they should call for help?

If you know of any good resources for teaching children to be safe, please share them with the rest of us 🙂

Tuesday Newsday: Time-lapsed Memories

Do you have a special photo album chronicling your child’s growth from a newborn on? Those are real keepsakes.

How would you like a time-lapse video showing your child’s growth in motion?

That’s what one dad and filmmaker did in the video below:

Just something fun I wanted to share with you, since it is Sunday Funday 🙂

Do you have pets? Are any of them close to the size of George?
